Time Off for Illness/Emergency and Back-Up Process

It’s inevitable that your employees will get sick especially during today’s ongoing public health crisis as well as unexpected emergencies, and take personal time off. Having a clear process to request time off or report PTO is so important to employee’s mental health. It increases productivity, it allows for priorities to be managed well, it allows for better communication, and creates a supportive environment for the workplace.

If your employees are sick and need time off to get well or have an urgent personal situation, the priority is that they take care of themselves, and you as the manager, support them where needed. We created a template to make sure you know the basics that need to be covered while you are out of office. The template includes helpful tips on how to communicate with your team and how your team communicates with their managers, including various examples of wording the employees can use to send out to the team.
