David Stier is a Partner Attorney at DLA Piper in Washington D.C. He brings more than 20 years of government and private practice experience leading global compliance and advisory matters and high-stakes government and internal investigations primarily involving anti-money laundering (AML), countering the financing of terrorism (CFT), economic and trade sanctions, anti-fraud, and anti-corruption. Drawing on his experiences as an investigator, senior compliance team member, and Assistant Chief Investigative Counsel within the U.S. Treasury Department following the 2008 financial crisis and as a fraud and AML prosecutor for both the US Department of Justice’s (DOJ) elite Bank Integrity Unit and DOJ’s Securities & Financial Fraud Unit, David develops and helps implement thoughtful, risk-based compliance programs for global financial services and other clients designed to proactively detect issues and minimize the likelihood of costly investigations or litigation. David speaks regularly on AML issues and recently authored the AML and Bank Secrecy Act chapter of Banking [on] Blockchain: A Legal and Regulatory Primer (June 2024 American Bar Association).
